What is a Layover flight
There are nonstop flights that take you from Point A to Point B without any stop along the way, and then there are layover flights that stop at one or more places en route to your destination. This intermediate stop is called a layover (or a connection), where you will have to deboard the aircraft and wait in the terminal for the flight that connects you to your destination from here. On layover flights, the transfer of your checked baggage will be taken care of by the airlines.
Also called connecting flights, layover flights are much cheaper than nonstop flights, but the travel time gets higher when there is a connection in between. Layovers can sometimes be longer, but in general, they range from 30 minutes to four hours. It can get longer than 8 hours for international flights.
Note that a layover is different from a stopover, and the latter is longer than the former, long enough to allow sightseeing of the place.
